In recent years the Faroes have experienced population decline, with young people leaving, in search of education, and not returning back to their country. Women have proved according to studies more likely to settle abroad. As a result, according to Prime Minister Axel Johannesen, the Faroes have a “gender deficit” with approximately 2,000 fewer women than men.
This, in turn, has lead Faroese men to look beyond the islands for romance. Many, though not all, of the Asian women, met their husbands online, some through commercial dating websites. Others have made connections through social media networks or existing Asian-Faroese couples.
Although the risk of culture shock can be dramatic, the weather on Faroe has also had a large difference in Asian countries, where we mostly have hot climates, in Faroe, the summer’s day would see the temperature reach 16 degrees Celcius.
Meanwhile, Faroe Island is lacking 4% woman on their population. Many of them wanted to have wives but apparently, they are having a hard time looking for a partner because of the gender imbalance.
According to reports, there are already 300 women from Asia migrated to Faroe to live with their boyfriends they got from several dating sites. In addition to this, the Asian group in this country are now the largest ethnic minority in 18 islands.
Unlike in the Philippines, Faroe Island is peaceful as you can leave your home without locking it. What she loves most about this country? The medical and education services and quality is quite far from what we have here int he country.
“There’s a shortage of women in the Faroe Islands. So local men are increasingly seeking wives from further afield – Thailand and the Philippines in particular,” she said.
